The Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board (KSPHCMB), in collaboration with UNICEF and the FCDO Lafiya Programme, has outlined clear next steps following the successful completion of a three-day Adaptation Meeting of the Redesigned Community-Based Health Workers (CBHW) Programme held at Hotel Seventeen, Kaduna State.

The Independent Mirror reports that the meeting, which brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, aimed to adapt, align, and strengthen the CBHW programme framework to address community health needs and ensure efficient service delivery across the 18 MAMII LGAs of Kano State.

In a statement signed by Sa’adatu Suleiman, Public Relations Officer of the KSPHCMB, participants at the workshop agreed on a series of next steps to ensure timely implementation and integration of the redesigned CBHW programme into the state’s primary health care system.

The agreed actions include:

1. Submission of the completed Community-Based Health Worker (CBHW) programme workplan and costing by participating teams for consolidation and review.

2. Harmonisation and cleaning of the CBHW programme workplan to ensure all inputs align with state priorities and national guidelines.

3. Submission of the finalised CBHW workplan for official approval by relevant authorities.

4. Integration of the CBHW workplan activities into the Annual Operational Plan (AOP) for 2026, to ensure effective budgeting and implementation within the state’s health framework.

5. Submission of the approved Kano State CBHW programme workplan to the National CBHW Programme, aligning the state’s roadmap with national community health strategies.

6. Sharing of all workshop documents by the CBHW Coordinator with participants and stakeholders for reference and follow-up actions.

Speaking at the close of the workshop, representatives of the KSPHCMB, UNICEF, and the FCDO Lafiya Programme commended participants for their dedication and collaboration in developing a robust and actionable CBHW workplan that reflects the realities and priorities of Kano State’s primary health care system.

The Director General of KSPHCMB, Professor Salisu Ahmad Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to sustaining partnerships that strengthen the health system, improve access to quality care, and enhance the performance of community-based health workers.

He emphasized that the workshop outcomes would directly contribute to improving maternal, newborn, and child health indicators across the state.

The Adaptation Meeting marks a significant step toward operationalising a standardised, data-driven, and people-centred community health workforce that supports the delivery of essential primary health care services to every household in Kano State.
