The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano Strategic Command, is to partner with the Continuing Professional Development Centre (CPDC), Kano State Polytechnic, to provide skills training for rehabilitated drug users and persons in the agency’s custody.

The Independent Mirror reports that in a statement signed by Auwal Isma’il Bagwai, Head of Public Affairs Unit, the initiative is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with practical skills to become self-reliant and reintegrate into society.

The development was disclosed during an interactive session between the NDLEA and CPDC management at the Central Administration of Kano State Polytechnic.

The CPDC Director, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim K/Nasarawa, commended the NDLEA for responding to the centre’s initiative and praised the Kano Strategic Commander, CN Dahiru Yahaya Lawal, for his commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking.

Representing the commander, the Assistant State Commander, Drug Prevention and Sensitisation, ACN Mu’awiya Alkali, said the partnership would promote rehabilitation and reduce the risk of beneficiaries returning to drug abuse or trafficking.

He said, “The initiative would provide rehabilitated persons with opportunities to acquire valuable skills that would enable them to become self-reliant, productive and useful members of both society and the nation at large.”

He added that the commander had delegated senior officers to engage with the CPDC management and develop modalities for implementing the partnership.

The NDLEA delegation also inspected skills development centres within the polytechnic to assess available facilities and vocational training programmes.

The partnership is expected to strengthen rehabilitation and empowerment efforts while supporting the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Kano State.
