A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has withdrawn from the Kano North Senatorial race ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The Independent Mirror reports that this decision followed extensive consultations and stakeholders’ meetings held under the leadership of Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf on Tuesday.
Speaking while stepping down, Muhammad Tijjani Gwarzo, a former Minister of Housing and former Deputy Governor, said he took the decision to allow peace to reign and help the APC win elections at all levels.
He said, “After a series of stakeholders’ meetings and the intervention of our leader, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, and other party leaders, I am pleased to announce my withdrawal in support of my brother, Senator Barau Jibrin.”
Gwarzo emphasized that he stepped down to ensure the APC remains united as one family capable of winning elections from top to bottom.
He also commended President Bola Tinubu vice President Kashim Shettima for their fatherly role and thanked Governor Yusuf for his intervention.
Responding, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, commended Governor Yusuf for showing leadership in resolving the contest and also praised Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and other party leaders for their roles.
He assured that the APC would remain one united family in Kano and work together to ensure the victory of President Tinubu, Governor Yusuf, and all other APC candidates.
The meeting was attended by the immediate past National Chairman of the APC and Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Abdullahi Umar Ganduje; former Kano State Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo; House of Representatives member, Hon.
