Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabiru Yusuf, Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, and Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, attended the funeral prayers of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sunusi Bayero.
The Independent Mirror reports that Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sunusi Bayero, passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 92 after a prolonged illness.
The funeral prayer for the late Galadiman Kano took place at the Emir’s Palace, Kofar Kudu, led by Kano Chief Imam, Professor Sani Zahraddeen.
He was later buried at Gandu Cemetery in Kano State.
Abbas Sunusi held the prestigious title of Galadiman Kano and was a member of the Kano Emirate Council for several decades.
Abbas Sunusi was first appointed as Sarkin Dawakin Tsakar Gida and District Head of Ungogo by his father, Emir Sanusi I, in 1959.
His rise through the ranks continued in 1962 when Emir Muhammadu Inuwa conferred upon him the title of Dan Iyan Kano.
Later, under the reign of Emir Ado Bayero, he was elevated to the position of Wambai of Kano.
During the first reign of his nephew, Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, he attained the distinguished title of Galadiman Kano, cementing his legacy as a senior statesman within the emirate.
Born in 1933 in Bichi, the late royal commenced his education at Kofar Kudu Elementary School in 1944 before proceeding to Kano Middle School (now Rumfa College) in 1948.
Among his children is Abdullahi Abbas, the current chairman of the Kano chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Other dignitaries who attended the funeral of Galadiman Kano included Jibril Ismail Falgore, Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Malam Salihu Sagir Takai, Aminu Babba Dan’agundi, and Rabiu Sulaiman Bichi, among thousands of mourners.
