Senator Barau Receives Shekarau Loyalists, NNPP Members into APC

Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has received a group of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) elders loyal to former Kano State Governor, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, as they officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The Independent Mirror reports that, Senator Barau announced the development on his verified Facebook account on Tuesday, stating: “Today, I received a group of elders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who belong to the camp of the former governor of Kano State, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, into our great party — the All Progressives Congress (APC).”

He noted that the Honourable Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, joined him in receiving the decampees.

The group, led by Hon. Lawan Abubakar Tsanyawa, included members of the Shura Council, Hisbah commanders, former legislators, and former local government chairmen.

They announced their departure from the PDP and entry into the APC during a visit to Senator Barau’s residence in Abuja.

“Even as PDP members, they said they had benefitted enormously from our interventions in infrastructure, empowerment, employment, and other areas. This, they said, motivated their decision to return to the APC,” Senator Barau said.

He welcomed them back to the party, stating, “They are not strangers to the APC. They were once members before following their leader to the PDP. Now that we are reunited, they will be treated fairly and equally.”

Senator Barau also received a separate delegation of New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) members from Bichi LGA, under the leadership of former council chairman, Alhaji Saleh Rabiu Yusuf (DanGwarzo).
