Tension has risen in the Bichi Local Government Area of Kano State following an attack on the headquarters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), allegedly carried out by supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Independent Mirror reports that Kano-based lawyer and activist, Abba Hikima Fagge, described the incident as an abuse of democratic principles.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Fagge stated: “Yesterday, I visited Bichi, where I witnessed the destruction and unrest allegedly carried out at the NDC office by some aggrieved supporters of the APC and Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar (Abba Bichi), the member representing Bichi Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations.
“A young man identified as Mustapha Abubakar Kabir, the younger brother of Hon. Abba Bichi, was said to have led a group of youths who engaged in acts of vandalism and harassed members of the NDC. This unfortunate incident reportedly resulted in injuries to several people.
“I made efforts to calm the supporters of the NDC candidate, Hon. Saminu Shehu, and his team. We have also submitted a written complaint to the Kano State Commissioner of Police and are awaiting justice.
“We will do everything possible to ensure that justice is served, God willing,” Fagge said.
Efforts to reach Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar’s media aide, Abubakar Aminu Ibrahim, were unsuccessful, as calls placed to him were not answered and text messages sent received no response. However, we will continue to reach out to all parties involved to ensure balance and fairness in our next coverage of the story.
The tension comes ahead of the 2027 general elections, as political parties in Kano State, particularly the APC, ADC, NDC, and others, continue their preparations for the polls.
