The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Rabiu Shuaibu, as the winner of the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election in Kano State.
The Independent Mirror reports that the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Umar Sani, announced the result on Saturday following the collation of votes from the affected polling units across the constituency.
According to the official results, Rabiu Shuaibu secured a total of 35,356 votes to emerge victorious in the keenly contested poll.
His closest challengers were Lawal Garba-Haruna of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who polled 268 votes, and Abubakar Yahaya-Muhammad of the Labour Party (LP), who garnered 98 votes.
Declaring the result, Prof. Sani stated that the APC candidate had fulfilled all legal requirements and obtained the highest number of valid votes cast.
“That Rabiu Shuaibu of the APC, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of valid votes cast, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected,” he announced.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the death of the former lawmaker representing the constituency, Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
The election took place across polling units in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas, with electoral officials and security personnel deployed to ensure a smooth and peaceful exercise.
With his victory, Rabiu Shuaibu will now represent the people of Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, succeeding the late Muhammad Danjuma-Hassan.
