NNL: Barau FC Moves to Second Place After Beating Jigawa Golden Stars

Barau Football Club defeated Jigawa Golden Stars 2-1 in a thrilling Northwest derby on Nigerian National League (NNL) Matchday 11.

The Independent Mirror reports that the crucial encounter was played on Saturday at the Kazaure Stadium, which was attended by enthusiastic fans, ended Jigawa Golden Stars with 10-man.

The visitors, Barau FC, took an early lead in the 7th minute through forward Sai’du Salisu, who scored after  Sunday Dapma’s crossing from a corner kick, marked Sai’du’s second goal of the season in the NNL.

Jigawa Golden Stars equalised the goal in the 35th minute, however, just one minute later, Shammasu Muhammad restored Barau’s lead, converting a header from Najib Yusuf, was also Shammasu’s second goal of the season.

With this result, Barau FC climbed to second place in the NNL 2024/2025 Northern Conference C, with 15 points from 10 matches.

Their position remains provisional, pending the results of upcoming matches between Gombe United and Sokoto United, and Wikki Tourists against Mighty Jets on matchday 11 this week.

In his post-match interview, Barau FC’s technical adviser, Rabi’u Tata, praised his team’s performance and credited the tactical arrangement for the win.

“I thank the players for their hard work. This isn’t our first victory away from home, we also picked points against Zamfara United. So Today, we earned another important win in Kazaure,”

“We need to keep working hard because our goal is to finish among the top teams”, Rabi”u Tata said.

The Kano-based side will now focus on their next two fixtures a home clash against Wikki Tourists and a final away match against Mighty Jets at the New Jos Stadium.

The outcome of these two matches will determining the Maliya Boys’ chances of promotion to the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
