The families of 22 Kano State athletes who died in a ghastly motor accident on Saturday, have received a total of twenty-two million Naira cash from the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.

The Independent Mirror reports that the  tragic incident occurred in Dakatsalle town, a few kilometres from the Kano metropolis, while the athletes were returning from the just-concluded National Sports Festival (NSF) in Ogun State.

Senator Barau Jibrin, represented by his Chief of Staff, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi, along with Shitu Madaki Kunchi, Ibrahim Shitu Chanji, Chairman of Barau FC, and Hon. Kabiru Ado Lakwaya Special Adviser on Youth and Sports, visited the families of the deceased athletes in the Gwagwarwa area of Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State.

Recall that last Tuesday, Senator Barau Jibrin paid a condolence visit to the families of the deceased athletes.

He had promised a donation of one million Naira to each of the 22 families, a promise that has now been fulfilled with the distribution of the cash gifts.

Speaking during the visit, Professor Muhammad Ibn Abdullahi stated that the donation reflects the Deputy President of the Senate’s commitment to continue supporting the families of the late athletes.

He added that the loss is deeply felt not only by the immediate families and the sports community but by Kano State and the entire country.

Speaking on behalf of the families, the technical director of the Kano State Sports Commission, Garba Shehu, expressed appreciation for Senator Barau’s support, adding that the donation will greatly assist the families of the deceased.

Other members of the delegation included Hon. Yahuza Yankaba, Shitu Madaki Kunchi, Hon. Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, Ibrahim Shitu Chanji, Alhaji Adamu Kabo, and other aides and officials, who all visited the bereaved families in Gwagwarwa, Nasarawa Local Government Area.
