Madu Muhammad, popularly known as “The Tactical One”, has made remarkable strides in his coaching career, especially with Kano-based club Barau FC.
The Independent Mirror reports that his steady rise through the ranks from the Nationwide League One (NLO) to the Nigeria National League (NNL) and now the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), testament to his dedication and football achievements.
Born on May 3, 1990, in Bauchi State, Madu’s educational journey reflects his commitment to learning and personal growth, he attended Sa’adu Zungur Primary School, Bauchi, where he obtained his Primary School Certificate between 1996 and 2002.
He proceeded to Day Lere Secondary School, Bauchi (2003–2008), and later attended Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi, where he earned a National Diploma (ND) between 2016 and 2018.
Madu began his coaching journey with One Touch Zango FC, Bauchi, he later worked with Skyline University, Kano, before joining Barau FC in 2021.
Under his guidance, and Support, Barau FC climbed from the NLO to the NNL, earning promotion in 2024, he played a crucial role as Chief Coach during the club’s historic promotion to the NPFL in 2025, working alongside Technical Adviser Rabiu Tata.
His achievements have placed him among the youngest Nigerian coaches to guide a club across three tiers of the domestic league—from NLO to NNL and finally to the NPFL.
Madu holds H@B 1 and 2 Coaching Certificates, and is also certified by the Nigeria Football Coaches Association (Kano State Branch) through Binary Sports Tech programs.
His coaching philosophy revolves around possession-based football, combined with pressing and a high-intensity playing style—an approach that has become a hallmark of Barau FC’s success.
Madu has contributed to the development of many players, some of them now play in local leagues, across Africa, and even in Europe.
His ability to nurture talent and implement modern football tactics highlights his growing influence in Nigerian football.

As we are preparing for the 2025/26 NPFL season, Madu Muhammad will collaborate with Barau FC’s newly appointed Technical Adviser, Isah Ladan Bosso, and Rabi”u Tata chief coach, as the team looks to make a strong debut in Nigeria’s top-tier league.
