70th Anniversary Gala: NUJ to Honour Kano Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf with Media Friendly Award

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has been nominated to receive the Media Friendly Award by the national leadership of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), in recognition of his exceptional support for press freedom and the advancement of the media profession in Nigeria.

The Independent Mirror reports that the announcement was made by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Monday.

According to the NUJ, under the leadership of its National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, Governor Yusuf was selected for the prestigious award due to his significant contributions to national development, promotion of good governance, and his consistently open and cordial relationship with the media.

The award will be formally presented to the Governor during the NUJ’s 70th Anniversary Awards and Gala Night, scheduled to be held on Saturday, 21st June 2025, in Abuja.

The Kano State Government expressed appreciation to the NUJ for the honour and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of press freedom as key pillars of democracy.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Kano State, we congratulate His Excellency, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, on this well-deserved recognition,” the statement read.

“We deeply appreciate the Nigerian Union of Journalists for acknowledging the Governor’s media-friendly disposition and impactful leadership.”
