2027: Islamic Scholar Joins Zamfara Governorship Race, Focuses on Poverty and Injustice

A prominent Islamic scholar, Dr. Abdulmuddalib Muhammad Auwal, has joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State and declared his intention to contest for governor in the 2027 general elections.

The Independent Mirror reports that Dr. Auwal formally registered with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Zamfara State on Sunday.

He was received by party leaders, stakeholders, and a large crowd of supporters in Tudun Wada Ward, Gusau Local Government Area.

Dr. Auwal stated that his decision to join the ADC was driven by the party’s ideology and manifesto.

“I have a personal desire to contribute to good governance by tackling security challenges and addressing poverty and vulnerability in Zamfara,” he said.

“I have developed blueprints and strategic plans focusing on education, healthcare, security, poverty reduction, and the empowerment of women and youths.

The ADC’s ideology aligns with my vision to rescue Zamfara from poor governance.”

According to him, insecurity in Zamfara is largely driven by injustice and poor governance.

“One of the main reasons for the escalation of insecurity in Zamfara and other parts of the country is neglect, injustice, and selfish political interests among some elites,” he said.

“We are aware that injustice and poor governance by some leaders entrusted with authority have become a major burden and a key driver of insecurity, particularly in Zamfara, which has become a hotspot for banditry.”

He emphasized that poverty and injustice remain the root causes of the ongoing security challenges in the state.

“In Zamfara, we have significant potential to address insecurity and poverty if properly harnessed,” he added.

Dr. Auwal further explained that his administration would focus on sustainable solutions through policies targeting poverty, unemployment, and lack of education, especially among youths.

“We will create job opportunities through agriculture and entrepreneurship development, providing viable alternatives to criminal activities,” he said.

He noted that Zamfara is richly endowed with agricultural resources.

“Our motto is ‘Farming is Our Pride,’ yet due to poor governance, we have failed to harness this potential for development,” he said.

He highlighted plans to transform the agricultural sector, including irrigation farming, to boost food security.

“In each of the 14 local government areas, we will construct dams to support both food and cash crop production,” he said.

Dr. Auwal also pledged to tackle youth unemployment through the establishment of industries, promotion of entrepreneurship, and vocational training.

“Our goal is to transform our youths from job seekers into job creators,” he added.

In their separate remarks, ADC leaders in Tudun Wada Ward and Gusau LGA expressed appreciation for Dr. Auwal’s decision to join the party.

They assured him of the party’s support and an enabling environment for him and his supporters.
