The job of Jose Peseiro, the Super Eagle head coach has come under scrutiny recently following poor start to World Cup qualifies.
The Independent Mirror reported that the three-time African champions picked just two points from their opening two games against minnows Lesotho and Zimbabwe in World Cup 2026 Qualifier.
A reliable source from the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), said that Peseiro will only keep his job if the Super Eagles win the title at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Portugal-based Peseiro was appointed on May 15, 2022, but in the last 14 games, Eagles have won only six, drawn three and lost five matches.
Most likely disappoiting result push Peseiro came under intense criticism following Eagles’ disappointing start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The three-time African champions are drawn in Group A in Abidjan along with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.
They open their campaign on January 12, 2024, with a match against Equatorial Guinea in the AFCON at Cote d’Ivoire.
But in a month ago, NFF admitted that Peseiro does not have the quality to lead the Super Eagles to an AFCON victory, judging by his experience and track record the stuation that threating his Job.

Football-loving fans, on the other hand are also saying Yusuf is capable of meeting the expectations of Nigerians in bringing back the old glory days ahead of the 2024 AFCON come January next year.

Recalled that in 2009, the NFF employed Yusuf as assistant coach to Samson Siasia, who was serving as the head coach of the Nigeria national football team.
Yusuf was still working with Siasia when Kano Pillars appointed him as technical adviser in 2010, a move that saw the club qualify for the 2010 CAF Champions League.
Also in November 2012, he moved to Enyimba, where he replaced Austin Eguavoen as technical adviser and guided them to win the 2013 Federation Cup trophy.
Just recently, in November 2019 Yusuf became manager of Rangers International. Later in December 2021 he was unveiled as Coach of Kano Pillars and became manager of the team.
