Peseiro named Alhassan Yusuf in Super Eagles’ provisional squad for AFCON 2023

Royal Antwerp midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has been included in the Super Eagles provisional squad for next month’s 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Independent Mirror report that the hard-running midfielder shone in Tuesday night’s famous 3-2 UEFA Champions League win over Barcelona.

Yusuf assisted on his team’s second goal and clocked over 13 kilometres in 90 minutes when he was on the pitch.

He has been tracked by Eagles coach Jose Peseiro for some time now.

The 22-year-old Kano State player, played over 33 appearances in all competitions and provided two assists last season.

Yusuf, signed from IFK Göteborg in July 2021, the 2019 Allsvenskan Newcomer of the Year, has a contract with Antwerp until June 30, 2025.

Officials said the Super Eagles will open training camp for the AFCON on January 2 in Dubai.

Nigeria are drawn in Group A along with hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea-Bissau and Equatorial Guinea.

They open their campaign on January 14 against Equatorial Guinea.
