Northwest University Wins One Gold, Three Bronze Medals, Qualifies for World University Games in Germany

Northwest University, Kano, has won one gold medals in Taekwondo and one Silver in Judo, and three bronze medals in the same sports at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Games held in Jos.

The Independent Mirror, reports that the FISU Games served as trials ahead of the World University Games, scheduled for July in Germany.

The recently concluded FISU Games were hosted by the University of Jos, with fewer than 500 athletes from 50 universities across the country participating in the tournament.

The impressive performance by Northwest University, Kano, has earned the institution the opportunity to represent Nigeria at the World University Games in Germany, pending an official invitation.

Northwest University secured the qualification for the outstanding performance of its student-athletes, including a gold medal win in the 54 kg Taekwondo category—an achievement that crowned the student the best player among Nigerian universities.

The global competition, which will be held from July 16th to 27th, is expected to host 8,500 student-athletes from 150 countries competing in 18 sporting events.
