Khamis Mailantarki Urges Reform of Nigerian Tennis, Hails Organisers of  Northern Table Tennis Championship 2026

The Vice President of the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation, Honourable Khamis Muhammed Mailantarki, has called for reforms and improved development of tennis and table tennis in Nigeria.

The Independent Mirror reports that Mailantarki made this call while addressing journalists in Kano during the closing ceremony of the maiden edition of the Northern Nigeria Table Tennis Championship, held from 31 January to 2 February 2026 at Sa’adatu Rimi College of Education, Kano State.

Honourable Mailantarki reaffirmed his commitment to the development of table tennis, noting that sports remain a powerful tool for youth engagement, unity, and national development.

He also applauded the organisers of the 2026 Northern Nigeria Table Tennis Championship for their dedication and hard work, describing their efforts as commendable and deserving of recognition.

“I remain committed to supporting and organising capacity-building programmes for youths, coaches, and officials. I will also continue to sponsor promising players to compete in both national and international competitions,” he said.

At the end of the tournament, Sani from Katsina State emerged winner of the men’s singles event, while Auwal from Bauchi State finished as runner-up. Mustafa and Abbas both claimed third place.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Northern Nigeria Table Tennis Championship, Dr. Mustafa Ibrahim Garga, commended Honourable Mailantarki for his unwavering support, dedication, and encouragement, describing him as a pillar of table tennis development in Nigeria.

The championship concluded with the presentation of trophies, medals, and cash prizes to outstanding teams and players who excelled and won various awards during the competition.
