Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, from the Faculty of Communication at Bayero University Kano (BUK), has expressed disappointment over the absence of students in his class.

The Independent Mirror reports that Professor Adamu shared his frustration on his official Facebook page after experiencing a poor turnout during a recent postgraduate lecture on social media’s role in popular culture.

He had scheduled his M.Sc. Popular Culture lecture for 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2025. However, upon arrival, he found the classroom completely empty.

“I will wait one more hour, all by myself,” he wrote, highlighting the gravity of the situation as he sat alone in the lecture hall.

His experience reflects a growing trend of attendance issues in classrooms, sparking discussions among his social media followers about students’ attitudes toward learning in Nigerian universities.

As the academic community reacts to the situation, it remains to be seen how institutions will address these challenges moving forward.

The incident raises concerns about student engagement and commitment in higher education, particularly among postgraduate students, who are expected to take their studies more seriously.
