The Kano State Government has approved an upward review of the Sanitation Vanguard stipend from ₦15,000 to ₦30,000.
The Independent Mirror reports that the Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir M. Hashim, disclosed this while receiving members of the Sanitation Vanguard.
According to Dr. Hashim, the Executive Governor of Kano State approved the increase from ₦15,000 to ₦30,000.
He explained that the increment will run for a six-month probationary period, during which the performance of the Vanguard will be closely monitored and evaluated.
“At the end of the period, committed and certified personnel who meet the Civil Service Commission requirements will be recommended for permanent and pensionable appointments,” he added.
Dr. Hashim further stated that the decision follows earlier agitations for permanent engagement.

He noted that the delay was due to administrative processes, inconsistencies in personnel records, and the fact that some beneficiaries had secured alternative employment.
The Sanitation Vanguard will be organized into teams to ensure proper supervision and assessment. Members have been urged to uphold honesty, discipline, and strong work ethics, and to channel their efforts toward improving environmental sanitation across Kano State.
