The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD), through its Plant One Million Trees (P1MT) campaign, has expressed its sincere appreciation to the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources, Environment and Climate Change, through its Forestry Department, for allocating 1,500 seedlings of different tree species to support the campaign.
The Independent Mirror reports that this was contained in a statement signed by Buhari Abba, Interim Media Officer of CITAD’s Plant One Million Trees campaign.
The gesture demonstrates the Ministry’s commitment to environmental protection, climate change mitigation and the promotion of sustainable tree-planting practices across Kano State and beyond.
The allocated seedlings comprise 200 Turare, 300 Darbejiya, 200 Panshana, 100 Zogale, 100 Rimi, 100 Dorawa, 100 Aduwa, 100 Kuka, 100 Kurna and 100 Madaci.
CITAD described the support as an important contribution to the P1MT campaign, which aims to plant one million indigenous trees across Nigeria’s 19 northern states by September 2027.
The campaign seeks to address environmental degradation, improve biodiversity, promote climate resilience and encourage communities to take responsibility for protecting the environment.
“We particularly appreciate the Ministry’s leadership and the Forestry Department’s support in advancing this shared environmental goal.
“We also encourage individuals and communities to ensure that planted seedlings are properly nurtured and protected to improve their survival rates,” the statement said.
CITAD called on other government ministries, departments and agencies, educational institutions, private organisations, development partners, philanthropists and environmentally conscious individuals to support the campaign through donations of seedlings, technical expertise, planting materials, monitoring support and community mobilisation.
The organisation emphasised that collective action is essential to restoring degraded lands, protecting natural resources and building a greener and more sustainable future for generations to come.
It also urged all supporters and tree planters to document their contributions and upload their tree-planting records through p1mt.ng to strengthen accountability, monitoring and reporting under the campaign.
CITAD reaffirmed its commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to ensure that the P1MT campaign achieves its objectives and delivers lasting environmental benefits across Northern Nigeria.
