Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Chairman of Dangote Groups, has announced the commitment of N15 billion for various projects at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, ADUSTECH, a Kano state owned institution.
The Independent Mirror reports that Dangote, who is the Chancellor of ADUSTECH, made the announcement at the 5th combined convocation ceremony of the university, held at its arena on Saturday.
He hinted that the fund, if released, would be used for what he termed as a 5-year Development Plan in the university, aimed at upgrading it to reach world standard.
He disclosed that part of the plan is the design and construction of additional students hostels, design and construction of engineering labs and design and construction of world class multi purpose computer lab, to be equipped with 24 hours Internet access.
He added that the project would also involve design and construction of befitting Senate building as well as post NYSC enrollment of best engineering students.
Dangote also commended governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of the state for commitment to end the menace of out-of-school children.
“I urge people, especially wealthy individuals to help the government in enrolling children to address the problem of out-of-school.
“The government cannot do it alone. The public must also contribute to the overall development of our country,” he said.
In his remarks, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, announced that governor Yusuf had approved N2.1 billion to settle the liabilities of the university.
He also disclosed that Dangote had settled electricity bills amounting to over N300 million for the institution.
