Senator Kwankwaso Slams Defectors Leaving NNPP for APC

by Ahmad Hamisu Gwale

The National Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabi’u Kwankwaso, has criticized key members of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State who recently defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing their actions as a betrayal of both the party and the movement.

The Independent Mirror reports that, Kwankwaso made the remarks at his Miller Road residence in Kano on Friday evening while receiving hundreds of supporters from Takai Local Government who refused to join the APC.

Recall that Senator Abdulrahman Kawu, who represents Kano South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, recently defected to the APC along with several federal lawmakers from Kano State.

Although Kwankwaso did not mention any names, he stated, “Kano South is a lesson. Voters rejected superghetti, N200, and Atamfa (wrappers) and were patient enough to vote for the NNPP.

“But those who won the election under our party’s platform have decided to abandon the masses and align with those who do not have the people at heart, but are only after personal and family gains.

“There is no greater political sin than deserting the party that gave you the opportunity and support. This is the highest form of betrayal,” Kwankwaso emphasized.

The former governor appreciated those who remained loyal to the movement, commending them for their courage to return to their political base.

He warned that those who betrayed the Kwankwasiyya Movement would eventually regret their actions.

“Fighting Kwankwasiyya is not an easy task. They will only realize the consequences when they engage in that fight,” he added.

In his remarks, the Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, thanked the loyal supporters for taking the right step and assured them of equal treatment within the party.

The event was attended by Senator Rufai Sani Hanga (representing Kano Central), former Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Falali, Chairman of Takai Local Government, Ibrahim Faruruwa, and other notable figures.
