EPO Perm Sec Visits Kano South Dams, Promises to Revive Irrigation, Water Channels

The permanent secretary of the Nigeria Ecological Project office, under the secretary to the federation (SGF) office, has visited the Challawa Goje Dam, Tiga Dam and Kafin Ciri in the Kano South.

The Independent Mirror reports that the visitation is aimed to revive the irrigation system and water channels, as permanent secretary of EPO Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayakoo led the team of experts including consultants, EPO’s office, Hadeja Jama’are River Basin Authority and community leaders.

The Challawa Goje Dam in Karaye, Tiga Dam in Bebeji and Kafinchiri dam in Garko, all in Kano South, the federal government remains committed to continuing the projects for the benefit of farmers and community people.

The assessment visit followed senator Kawu Sumaila and other prominent Kano people calling president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to revive the Kano benefit irrigation system especially for the benefit of people.

While speaking following the visitation of the three Kano North dams, the permanent secretary of the EPO, Dr. Aishetu Gogo Ndayakoo, said all the Kano stakeholders ranging from farmers, community leaders, politicians, associations would be fully engaged  to achieve the set objectives.

She added that the government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu supports Kano,  and to make sure that what happened supports with the flooding of the Alau dam in Maiduguri of Borno state doesn’t repeat in Kano.

Gogo also noted that the Ecological funds project office is working across 36 states and the FCT in order to be aware of ecological issues such as water washing away land, bridges, irrigation systems, agricultural or environmental challenges, and flooding matters .

Dr Ndayako Mohammed said the  EPO  is a strategic office positioned to aid in achieving the key polices of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, especially in addressing the ecological challenges in the country.

On his part, Kano south senatorial district, Suleiman Abdurahaman Kawu Sumaila represented by Aliyu Abubakar Bullet commended the federal government for the intervention following efforts, by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He added that the project, if concluded, would boost the farming system in the state, adding that people in Kano south will be self-reliant without any changes.
