On Abba Hikima’s: Between Political Expediency and Principled Politics

by Ahmad Hamisu Gwale

RIsing Right activist, Abba Hikima put togather a well thought out piece, a blend of literary lucidity with facts & graphic history, which i find thoroughly enjoyble.

Unfortunately Hikima, like most self acclaimed Kwankwasiyya ideologue, suffered the delusion of mistaking Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso (RMK) as a revolutionist, his Kwankwasiyya, an ideology & his governance style a revolutionary by product. Nothing can be more delisionary than these.

Anna Hikima, should have spared time to have gone into history lane, to better aplreciate what stuff true revolutionaries are made: take for instance the late Cuban revolutionist leader, Fidel Castro.

Has Abba Hikima ever wondered why, years after his demise, and despite frantic, sustained & relentless hostility, antagonism & sabotage from the much bigger, more powerful & economical more Prosperous neighboring USA the Cuban Revolution endured?

A true revolutionary always puts in place solid and enduring political structures, vision and ideals capable of outliving the revolutionary.. It is therefore never about the revolutionary himself, but his ideas and ideals..

If one may ask Abba Hikima, how many proven & tested Kwankwasiyya loyalists, over the past years, who started this so called Kwankwasiyya movement, with the factionalisation of fhe PDP, way back in 2010 today remain with Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso?

The late Political sage, Late Mallam Aminu Kano’s parties, in the first & second republics, the Northern Elements Progressive Union (NEPU) and the People’s Redemption Party (PRP) primarily focussed on the elimination of Cattle & Poll Tazes (Haraji & Jangali) , considered major instruments of repression of poor people, by repressive Morthern Aristocratic institutions.

What today are the thrusts of Kwankwasiyya ideology? Foreign studies, at the expense of dilapidated & collapsing local Education, blinded & meaningless symbolic appearance in white robes & red caps or what? Were Kwankwaso to fall and pass away today (Allah forbids) where are the structures to continue the Kwankwasiyya legacy? Right before his eyes, but for the power of incumbancy, many of the Kwankwasiyya ground troopers might have long deserted him, under the aeges of “Tsaya da Kafarka”.

Although there’s no denying, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso remaind undoubtedly one of the most charismatic populist politician of contemporary generation of Nigerian Politicians, the naked truth is neither is Kwankwaso himself, nor his Kwankwasiyya movement or even his programs in government have anything to do with a revolution.

How can Abba Hikima, in all honesty describe the current turmoil confusion and total lack of direction of the current Kano State government, under Engr.

Abba Kabir Yusuf, a dye in the wool Kwankwasiyya loyalist? If what obtains on Kano today, is the by-product of a revolution, Abba Hikima, with due respect needs to find another meaning.

Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s current political travails, are nothing but collective consequences of years of Political manupulation, shrouded in vicious democratic dictatorship. He believes only in 101% blinded political loyalty, never believes in internal democracy, nor any person’s ability or capacity to be like him, or even better.

The Hausa gave a popular proverb: a bird, who imagines itself too smart to be caught by its legs, will end up conveniently caught by its neck. For me, that depics his current political travails. .
