Chairman of the Nigerian Sports Commission (NSC), Malam Shehu Dikko, commended the Super Eagles, for their impressive victory over Rwanda in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Independent Mirror reports that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen scored twice on Friday to boost Nigeria’s chances of qualifying for the World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Malam Shehu Dikko, in a statement on his verified Facebook page, praised the team’s outstanding performance, particularly highlighting Osimhen’s remarkable achievement.
“I am extremely delighted with the performance of the Super Eagles against Rwanda in Kigali, which has now put Nigeria firmly back in contention for the sole qualification ticket from Group C of the CAF (Africa) 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers,”
“On behalf of the entire Nigerian sports family and indeed the country, I congratulate the Super Eagles players and the technical crew, led by Eric Chelle, for putting up a brilliant and assuring performance to get the needed result in Kigali. This was practically a ‘win-or-bust’ match played in front of over 60,000 Rwandan fans.”
He also acknowledged the unprecedented support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, towards the Commission’s efforts in revitalizing Nigerian sports.
With the 2-0 win, Nigeria now has six points, moving up to fourth place in the standings—just behind Rwanda, which has seven points. Lesotho dropped below Nigeria after their 2-0 defeat to South Africa.
The Super Eagles will return home to face Zimbabwe at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on March 25, aiming for back-to-back wins. Meanwhile, Rwanda will look to recover when they host Lesotho on the same day.
