NNL Fines Jigawa Golden Stars ₦2M for Assault on Match Officials

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has fined Jigawa Golden Stars Football Club a total of ₦2 million following an incident in which club officials allegedly assaulted a match referee.

The Independent Mirror reports that the incident occurred on May 3, 2025, at the Kazaure Township Stadium after a game between Barau FC and Jigawa Golden Stars.

According to reports, the center referee was physically attacked by Jigawa Golden Stars officials after the final whistle, sustaining injuries.

In a statement released by the NNL Disciplinary Committee on May 8, 2025, the following sanctions were announced:

₦1million is fine for Jigawa Golden Stars for failure to provide adequate security during and after the match.

₦1million fine for the assault on match officials.

The Jigawa State Football Association and Jigawa Golden Stars FC have been given 7 days to identify and submit the names of the officials involved in the assault.

Additionally, Barau FC was fined ₦500,000 for failing to ensure their supporters remained in the designated stands.

NNL Chief Operating Officer Dalasor Danlami Alanana stated that the decision falls under the league’s summary jurisdiction.

The affected clubs have 48 hours to either accept the ruling in writing or appeal to the NFF Disciplinary Committee.
