The Chairman of Shanono Local Government, Hon. Abubakar Barau, has initiated a major step toward improving security in the area by hosting a high-level security summit in the Faruruwa area.
The Independent Mirror reports that in a statement released to journalists by the Chairman’s spokesperson, Ammar Shanono, shortly after the event on Wednesday, the summit aimed to address the growing insecurity in the region.
The event brought together key stakeholders, including security agencies, traditional leaders, and representatives from neighboring local governments.
It served as a platform for collaborative discussions and the development of practical strategies to enhance local safety and protect lives and property.
Hon. Abubakar Barau Shanono, who served as the chief host, unveiled plans to strengthen community security by recruiting hunters and other local security volunteers.
He announced that the recruits would be equipped with bicycles to ensure better mobility and quicker response in rural and remote areas.
“Our priority is to secure our communities through home-grown solutions. By engaging trusted local hunters and vigilantes, we are taking strong steps toward preventing insecurity before it escalates,” Hon. Barau stated.
The Commissioner of Police for Kano State, CP A.I. Bakori (PhD), commended the initiative and assured the gathering of the police force’s readiness to support the program.
“The Nigeria Police Force is committed to working with local authorities and communities to tackle insecurity and restore peace—not only in Shanono but across the entire Kano State,” he affirmed.
Traditional rulers, led by the District Head of Shanono, Ɗankadan Kano, Alhaji Dr. Basheer Ibraheem Mohammed, also pledged their support.
He assured the audience that traditional institutions across the region would cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies to ensure a peaceful and secure environment.
Chairmen of neighboring local governments—Tsanyawa, Bichi, Gwarzo, and Bagwai—were also present at the summit. They praised the initiative and pledged their support in implementing community-based security strategies in their respective areas.
