The Kano State Ministry of Information, in collaboration with the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Kano Chapter, has organized a two-day workshop for political programme presenters, media activists, and commentators.

The Independent Mirror reports that the workshop, held from April 23 to 24, 2025, aimed to sanitize political activism and promote mutual understanding among politicians in the state.

The Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, called on political programme presenters and media commentators to prioritize the interests of Kano State and serve as ambassadors of dignity, unity, and religious harmony in their public discourse.

Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, Governor Yusuf lauded the initiative that brought together media voices from diverse backgrounds, acknowledging their significant role in communicating on-the-ground realities and offering constructive guidance to the government.

In his remarks, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Waiya, explained that at the end of the workshop, participants would have a clear understanding of ethical standards regarding political activism.

Comrade Waiya reiterated the state government’s commitment to partnering with relevant stakeholders to elevate Kano to a global standard and ensure citizens enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Also speaking, NBC State Coordinator Malam Adamu Salisu noted that the workshop aligns with NBC’s mandate, hence the need for collaboration with key stakeholders to achieve the desired objectives.

While presenting a paper on promoting decent speech and avoiding abusive language in the media from an Islamic perspective, the Chief Imam of Al-Furqan Mosque, Sheikh Bashir Aliyu Umar, identified three essential elements of information dissemination in Islam: honesty, accuracy, and sensitivity.

The Chairman of Kano State Political Activists, popularly known as the Gauta Club, Alhaji Hamisu Danwawu Fagge, commended the efforts of the Kano Government.

Participants included political presenters from Kano State radio stations and representatives from various political parties across the 44 local government areas of the state.
