Kano Drug Bail Scandal: Governor Yusuf Gives Committee One Week to Submit Report

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has inaugurated a high-powered special investigative committee over the alleged bail of a suspected drug baron, Sulaiman Aminu Dan Wawu, by the State Commissioner for Transportation, Hon. Ibrahim Ali Namadi.

The Independent Mirror reports that the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Umar Faruk Ibrahim, who inaugurated the committee on behalf of the Governor, stated that the committee has been given one week—starting Sunday, July 27, 2025—to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident and recommend appropriate actions to the government.

According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in Kano on Sunday, the committee is expected to conduct a thorough investigation and submit its report within the given timeframe.

The statement also announced the composition of the committee, with the Special Adviser to the Governor on Justice and Constitutional Matters, Barrister Aminu Hussaini, appointed as chairman.

Other members include Barrister Hamza Haladu, Barrister Hamza Nuhu Dantani, Director General, Special Services Directorate, Major General Muhammad Sani (rtd).

Also the committee has Comrade Kabiru Dakata, Professor Mamun Mustapha of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, and Alhaji Abdullahi Mahmud Umar, Commissioner II, Civil Service Commission

Hajiya Bilkisu Shehu Mai Mota, Permanent Secretary, Administration and General Services, SSG’s Office (Secretary of the Committee)

The Secretary to the State Government expressed confidence in the committee members, noting that they were selected based on merit, competence, and their ability to deliver on the assigned mandate.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, the chairman, Barrister Aminu Hussaini, appreciated the Kano State Government for taking swift action on the matter and pledged to carry out the assignment with integrity, objectivity, and professionalism.
