The Director General of Media and Publicity to the Kano State Governor, Malam Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, is set to resign to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives representing Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, and Rimin Gado constituencies.
The Independent Mirror reports that all indications point to a long-standing ambition by Bature to run for the position.
Information gathered by Arewa Updates indicates that he has already concluded plans to resign in pursuit of his ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Sunusi Bature, one of the young journalists who rose prominently in the profession, emerged as the Governor’s spokesperson in 2023 before later becoming the Director General of Media and Publicity.
He began his career 22 years ago with Freedom Radio Kano, a leading privately owned media outlet in Northern Nigeria.
He later gained experience in public relations and international development, working with organisations such as DFID, USAID, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and the Rockefeller Foundation, before venturing into politics.
Efforts to reach him for confirmation and further clarification were unsuccessful.
Sunusi Bature is regarded as one of the Governor’s spokespersons who has maintained a stable and controversy-free working relationship with his principal in recent times, unlike some of his predecessors.
Recalled that on Tuesday 25th March, 2026 Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed all political appointees intending to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their appointments in line with the provisions of the Electoral act.
