On Sunday the morning of April 27 2025 ,the Nigeria Union of Journalists state Secretariat located at Farm center Kano was adorned with decoration as all is set to Inuagurate the first online media chapel in Kano and by extension in the whole 19 Northern states.
In tandem with the NUJ constitution which its amendment was ratified in Kano in the year 2022 which incorporated the online media chapel into its fold.
But before I go further lets take a little bit look at what transpired in Kano before the chapel was made a reality on April 27th 2025.
In Late and early 2019 and early 2020 when the Corona virus hit the globe ,in the year 2020 most journalists who were analogue forced themselves to learn the rudiments of working online ,but before then Kano as a center of learning and civilisation in Northern Nigeria where goods emerge from the state be it education ,culture ,politics ,and in the online media space the state was no longer left behind ,and with the digitalization of Journalism ,practicing Journalists in the Traditional media whose origin is from Kano or are practicing in Kano started taking over the space.
The pioneer Kano journalist that came with news websites are Jafar Jafar of Daily Nigerian operating from Abuja, Dawud Nazifi Khalid started publishing the Daily Focus ,Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu Prime Time ,Abdullateef Abubakar Jos Solacebase.
The above mentioned individuals started between 2017 to date.
Then from 2018 to around 2020 other practicing Journalists also hit the website with Dr Maude Rabiu Gwadabe Kano Focus,Abbas Yushau Yusuf Nigerian Tracker ,So also another publisher of Daily News24 Hisham Habib of Newstunnel ,Isyaku Ahmad of stallion Times and Zainab Abdurrahman Mai Agogo of White blood multimedia and Abubakar Dangambo of Independent Post .
With this surge of the online media the Nigeria Union of Journalists Kano council under its former chairman comrade Abbas Ibrahim made serious efforts to make sure the NUJ National Secretariat approves the inauguration of Kano online media chapel but due to some reasons know to the NUJ leadership the dream was not realized.
Due to that the practicing Journalists went ahead and form another independent association titled Association of Kano online Journalists under the leadership of Hisham Habib former MD Radio Kano ,when Hisham Habib went to politics some executives of the association can not not reconcile themselves ,they went ahead and form the yet to be registered association of online media guild led by the publisher of Solacebase and a veteran Abdullateef Jos.
With the appointment of Comrade Ibrahim Waiya as the states commissioner for information and internal affairs by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf ,the new information helmsman tried to reconcile the warring factions of the online media so that Kano will continue to be a pacesetter in everything.
With comrade Waiyas effort ,former Kano NUJ chairman Comrade Abbas Ibrahim,The present leadership of Nigeria Union of Journalists Kano council under comrade Suleiman Dederi ,April 27 was set for the inauguration of the chapel .
Comrade Dederi stood before important dignitaries and administer the oath of steering the affairs of the Chapel for the next three years under the following .

3.Zahrau Nasir – Daily Watch 24,- Assistant secretary

6.Musa Ahmad Durumin Iya -Alfijirnews – Auditor
With this Kano made history with the inauguration of the first online media chapel in Northern Nigeria and survey suggests that it’s the only state in Northern Nigeria with the highest number of online media practioners who were in the Traditional media
