Bashir Garba (Walo) and Umar Ahmed D Bau, have been recognized as the Kano SWAN Player and Coach of the Year 2024, respectively, for their exceptional performances.
The Independent Mirror reports that Walo, who plays for Shehe United, emerged as the top scorer in the Tofa Premier League last season and helped his team win back-to-back titles. 
His outstanding performance earned him the Best Player award among others.
D Bau, the head coach of the Kano senior rugby team, was honored as the Best Coach for his dedication to rugby development.
Under his guidance, rugby teams have been established in over 20 secondary schools in Kano state.
The awards ceremony, which also featured the launch of the 2025 SWAN calendar, took place on Thursday, January 6, 2025.
Notable dignitaries in attendance included Sharif Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan, Kano FA Chairman; Professor Abdurrashid Garba, Vice Chancellor of KHAIRUN University, Alhaji Isyaku Umar Tofa OON, Makaman Bichi, former information Kano commissioner Baba Halilu Dantiye and others .
