Autan Mamman Wins SWAN Kano’s Traditional Boxing Player of the Year Award

The Kano’s renowned traditional boxer, (Dambe) Autan Mamman, has been crowned the SWAN Kano Traditional Boxing Player of the Year for 2024.

The Independent Mirror reports that Mamman, a Dambe fighter, received the prestigious award at a ceremony held on Thursday, February 6, 2025, in Kano state.

The event, which also featured the unveiling of the 2025 SWAN calendar, aimed to recognize and celebrate outstanding individuals who have contributed significantly to sports development in Kano state.

According to Zahradeen Sale, Chairman of the Kano SWAN, the award ceremony was designed to honor exceptional athletes like Autan Mamman, who have demonstrated remarkable dedication and excellence in their respective sports.

Mamman’s impressive record in 2024, despite spending two years injury, reached 47 wins, 3 losses, and 6 draws in traditional boxing matches, earned him the top spot in the traditional boxing category.

The award ceremony was an emotional moment for Mamman, who was accompanied by his mother, and her tears of joy and pride were a testament to the significance of this achievement for the Mamman family.

The award ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Sharif Rabiu Inuwa Ahlan Kano FA Chairman, Professor Abdurrashid Garba KHAIRUN University Vice Chancellor, former Kano Information Commissioner Baba Halilu Dantiye, Alhaji Isyaku Umar Tofa OON, Makaman Bich among others.
