National Youth Games: Kano Contingents Frustrated Following Unpaid Allowance, Bunusses Despite Their Appeal

The controversy surrounding the missing allowances and bonuses of Kano State contingents during the recent NYG held in Asaba Delta State.

The Independent Mirror reports that there  was alleged misappropriation of bonuses and allowances meant for Kano state Contingents during the recently concluded 8th edition of National Youths Games 2024, held at Asaba the Delta state capital.

The Games which were aimed at uniting the youths in view of their numerical strength so as to foster love and togetherness, left a can of worms within the pyramid City camp during the tourney.

Despite presenting one of the largest entourages during the meets likewise performed creditably well, the speculation was largely on their remaining unpaid money This has been generating a lot of controversy, the I’ll feel and misunderstanding among the officials and athletes.

The argument led one official pointing accusing fingers on the other on the whereabout of the funds reports from the grapevine which could not be really traced indicated that the funds changed hands within some high ranking officials of the ministry as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf being an action leader had since released the money.

It was based on this annoying problem that part of the members of the team are calling on him being a Governor that has listening ears and shows utmost concern to the ordeal of his people to come to their aid with a view to solving the matter as it is simple and plain.

It would be recalled that Kano state Sports commission received Ten Millions Naira from the Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development Comrade Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso before the contingents left for the games in Asaba and later Five Million was sent to them after they were left stranded at the conclusion of the Games in Asaba,
While it was clearly stated that the Commission had received Fifteen millions Naira from the Ministry but they were not aware of how the amount was misappropriated among the top hierarchy in the Sports sector.

The Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development Comrade Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso recently set Thursday 8th October 2024, to Interact with them at the Sports Commission conference room but postponed due to some official Assignment.

But later the outgoing Acting Chairman of the outfit, Malam Bala Sani Shehu addressed them and conveyed the message of the Commissioner who went to see the Number one citizen on official assignment purposely on the case but regrettably nothing was heard.

They lamented that the Balance they were owed was over Nine Million Four hundred thousand Naira but yet the quagmire remains unsolved. The members however prayed the ongoing problem will soon come to past going by the simplicity of the youths and sports commissioner Mustapha Rabi’u Kwankwaso.

An undisclosed source said Kano state Governors Alhaji Abba Kabeer Yusuf Alias Abba Gida-Gida released the Sum of 17,306,220 to the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development Account. Also he letter approves the Sum of 15,000,000 but yet the money was not received by both the Ministry and the Commission.

While Speaking with the Former Acting Chairman of the Commission Malam Bala Sani Shehu via telephone call He said “I received the total Sum of Fifteen Millions from the Ministry on our Journey to honour the NYG in Delta, And immediately after our returned back home we write the submission of our remaining owned balance to the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development which is Nine Million Four Hundred and Fifty Six thousand Five Hundred Naira only.”

He lament that if the money was released it will be used to paid outstanding Balance of the Athletes, Coaches, Secretaries, Driver, officials and Journalists among others.

Kano state at the just concluded 8th edition National Youths Games 2024, won Five Gold Medal, Two Silver and Two Bronze.
