In recent days, there has been some discussion on social media about projects “approved” by the Kano State Executive Council but yet to commence. To ensure clarity and keep the good people of Kano well-informed, I want to break down the process so that the public will understand better.
Government projects are not a one-day event. They move through clear, accountable stages designed to protect public funds and deliver quality.
The process includes: Feasibility & Design, Bill of Engineering Measurement and Costing, Procurement/Tender Process, Due Process Certification, Contract Award, Contract Signing, Mobilization, and Phased Payment.
Each of these stages exists for a reason: to ensure there is no waste, no inflated contracts, and no abandoned projects.
So when you hear that a project is “approved” by the Executive Council, it means 3 things:
1. The Need is Confirmed – Government has agreed this project is critical for Kano people.
2. The Cost is Approved – The budget and scope have been accepted.
3. It is Now in the Pipeline – The relevant Ministries can now proceed to tender, finalize designs, and prepare for funding release.
It does not automatically mean that contractors have been paid or that bulldozers should be on site the next morning. This is the same process followed by the Federal Government and all 36 states of the federation
Let’s focus on facts, not rumors or misinformation.
Since May 2023, under the visionary leadership of His Excellency Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, over 98% of projects approved by the Kano State Executive Council have either been successfully completed or are actively ongoing throughout all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs).
This administration is delivering tangible improvements in roads, schools, hospitals, water supply, and youth & women empowerment programs. Transparency is the hallmark of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
In fulfillment of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s promise of utmost openness, we are today publishing a comprehensive list of over 1,000 projects that are either completed or ongoing. This list includes each project’s name, location, and current status.
We invite every concerned citizen to verify these projects firsthand. Visit the sites in your LGA. This is your government, your money, your future.
From day one, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said, “Kano people have a right to know.” That is why every Executive Council approval is fully documented and available for public scrutiny.
We understand your eagerness to see freshly tarred roads, fully roofed classrooms, and clean water flowing from your taps. So do we.
But responsible governance demands careful planning, ensuring funds are available before project start, and avoiding abandoned or wasteful projects. This is the “Abba Model”—no white elephants, no abandoned sites.
We urge the public to disregard attempts to misrepresent the normal government process as failure. Instead, consult the list, visit any project site in your area, and judge us based on what you see with your own eyes.
Kano is working again. Under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, Kano First remains our guiding principle.
