‎A group of political thugs on Saturday blocked the road against police patrol vehicles and journalists in Janruwa town, Bagwai Local Government Area of Kano State, during the rerun elections for state assembly seats.

‎The Independent Mirror reports that the incident occurred when journalists, who were part of a monitoring team alongside security agencies, had their vehicle damaged after leaving Bagwai en route to Gari Local Government.

‎They were later escorted by another police patrol team, but on reaching Janruwa, the convoy was intercepted and blocked by political thugs who attempted to stop their movement.

‎Police officers at the scene displayed professionalism by securing the journalists and diverting them to Bichi Local Government for safety, while awaiting reinforcement to return and confront the attackers.

‎In a swift reaction, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, confirmed that 288 suspects armed with dangerous weapons were arrested across different polling units for allegedly plotting to disrupt the electoral process.

‎The rerun elections were held in the constituencies of Gari/Tsanyawa and Bagwai/Shanono for the Kano State House of Assembly.
