PDP Governors Reject Coalition Against Tinubu for 2027

by Ahmad Hamisu Gwale

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have ruled out the possibility of a merger or coalition with any other political party against the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Independent Mirror reports that this decision followed the outcome of the PDP Governors’ meeting held in Ibadan, Oyo State, between Sunday and Monday.

Chairman of the Forum and Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, read the communiqué to journalists.

Governor Mohammed stated that the party remains open to welcoming individuals or political parties that wish to join the PDP.

The Presidential Candidate of the PDP and that of the Labour Party in the last election, Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, have been canvassing for a coalition aimed at unseating the APC in 2027.

Additionally, Nasir El-Rufai, former Governor of Kaduna State, who recently defected from the ruling party to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), is among those pushing for a coalition to defeat President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the APC in 2027.
