Nigeria’s U-20 Flying Eagles defeated the Egyptian Young Pharaohs 2-1 in a friendly match ahead of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Independent Mirror reports that Kparobo Arierhi opened the scoring for Nigeria in the 10th minute, following a well-timed pass from Bidemi Amole.

Egypt equalized in the 65th minute through Ahmed Kaabaka, but Nigeria regained the lead seven minutes from time.

Precious Benjamin converted from the penalty spot after Divine Oliseh was fouled inside the Egyptian eighteen-yard box.

The Flying Eagles’ first group match is against Tunisia on Thursday next week, followed by clashes with Morocco and Kenya in Group B.

Meanwhile, hosts Egypt, who are in Group A, will play South Africa on Sunday, then face Sierra Leone on April 30, Zambia on May 3, and Tanzania on May 9.

This friendly victory provides a morale boost for the seven-time African champions, coming just 48 hours after their arrival in Cairo for the 17th edition of the Africa U-20 Cup of Nations, which kicks off on Sunday.
