The Kano State Government has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the forum of All Progressives Congress (APC) Governors over the donation of N8 billion to traders affected by the devastating fire that razed parts of Singer Market in Kano on Saturday, providing immediate relief to hundreds of victims.
The Independent Mirror reports that this was contained in a statement signed by Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Information and Internal Affairs, on Monday, 16th February 2026.
According to the statement, “I, on behalf of the Kano State Government under the able leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, wish to express our profound appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for donating the sum of Five Billion Naira (N5 billion) as an intervention fund to support traders affected by the recent fire outbreak at the popular Singer Market in Kano.”
The statement noted that the timely and compassionate intervention has once again demonstrated the President’s commitment to the welfare of Nigerians, especially in moments of hardship and distress.

“The magnitude of loss recorded at the market deeply affected us all, and this generous donation will go a long way in cushioning the suffering of the victims and helping them rebuild their businesses,” it added.
The state government also commended the governors on the platform of the APC, under the aegis of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), for their collective donation of Three Billion Naira (N3 billion) to the victims of the inferno.
According to the statement, their solidarity and sense of shared responsibility reflect the true spirit of cooperative governance and national unity.
It described the combined N8 billion intervention by the Federal Government and the APC Governors as a remarkable gesture of empathy and leadership, sending a clear message that the people of Kano are not alone in their moment of grief and need.
The government further assured that it would work closely with all relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability in the utilisation of the funds, enabling affected traders to quickly resume their business activities.
The commissioner prayed that Almighty Allah rewards President Tinubu and the APC Governors for their generosity and protects the state and the nation from future occurrences of such unfortunate incidents.
