Kano-based media Freedom Radio Nigeria, has reported that the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibrin Falgore, and his deputy, Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, did not sponsor any bills during the 2024 legislative session.

The Independent Mirror reports that, on the legislative performance of assembly members, seven lawmakers, including the Speaker and Deputy Speaker, failed to sponsor a single bill throughout the year.

Freedom Radio’s findings have sparked public debate, especially since other legislators were actively involved in sponsoring bills.

Ibrahim Muhammad Malami, the lawmaker representing Rano, recorded the best member with top performance following reportedly that he sponsored 18 bills in 2024.

But the other lawmakers identified with zero bills sponsored include, Zubairu Hamza Massu from Sumaila, Lawan Shehu Bichi, Bichi, Garba Shehu Fammar Kibiya, Murtala Musa More Dambatta, Haruna Yunusa Kayyu Gwarzo,

Others Rt. Hon. Ismail Jibrin Falgore, representing Rogo Local Government, and his deputy, Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, representing the Rimingado/Tofa Constituency, were also named among those with no bills sponsored.

In response, the Kano State House of Assembly has denied the report, describing it as inaccurate and misleading.

The Assembly’s spokesperson, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, stated that the report from Freedom Radio was riddled with factual errors and failed to reflect the full scope of the Speaker’s legislative activities in 2024.

Shawai urged the public to disregard the report, while Freedom Radio stood by its findings, asserting they were based on official legislative records.

The report further revealed that out of all 40 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, Abdulmajid Isah Umar Mai Rigar Fata, representing Gwale Local Government, sponsored only one bill in the entire year.
