A former Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, has declared his intention to contest for the Kano North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
The Independent Mirror reports that Gwarzo made the declaration on April 18, 2027, stating that his decision followed consultations, reflection, and prayers.
The Kano North seat is currently occupied by the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin.
However, some aides of the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabiru Yusuf, were reportedly present at Gwarzo’s declaration.
They include Alhaji Nagoda, Murtala Zawai, among others.
Also in attendance were the Member representing Gwarzo/Kabo Federal Constituency, Hon. Ayuba Labaran Durum; the Member representing Kabo in the Kano State House of Assembly; and Hon. Yunusa Kayyu, Member representing Gwarzo in the Kano State House of Assembly.
While speaking, Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo confirmed that he would contest under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This has further fueled speculation about possible backing from within the state government.
As of the time of filing this report, Barau Jibrin has yet to react to the development.
The development signals what may become a keenly contested race for the Kano North Senatorial seat ahead of the 2027 general elections.
