Hon. Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, the Member of the House of Representatives representing Bichi Federal Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, has disbursed financial support of over N135,778,500 to 757 butchers drawn from the 11 wards of Bichi Local Government Area.
The Independent Mirror reports that the distribution ceremony was held on Thursday at the Hagagawa Sports Field in Bichi as part of an initiative aimed at empowering small-scale businesses and strengthening micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the constituency.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Sabo Iliyasu Saye, the lawmaker described the initiative as part of his commitment to supporting people across various sectors and categories in the Bichi Local Government Area.
As part of the programme, the 757 beneficiaries underwent specialised training designed to enhance their skills, improve their business operations and promote the sustainable development of the butchery trade.
Upon completion of the training, the beneficiaries were provided with financial assistance to help them expand their businesses, improve their operations and strengthen their livelihoods.
The initiative was carried out under the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) Development Committee, headed by Legislative Assistant, Zaharaddeen Bello.
According to the organisers, 88 beneficiaries received N500,000 each, while 185 others received N250,000 each. A further 484 beneficiaries received N100,000 each.
The organisers said a total of 757 butchers benefited from the programme, with the overall financial support put at N135,778,500.
The event attracted politicians, government officials, community leaders and other stakeholders, including the Director of the Campaign Committee of Hon. Abba Bichi, Hon. Sani Mukkadas Barden Bichi, and the APC Chairman of Bichi Local Government Area, Hon. Sule Abdu Ara.
Others in attendance included the Secretary of the Kano State APC, Dr. Yusuf Mohammed Sabo; a representative of the Chairman of Bichi Local Government Area; the Chairman of the Kano State Butchers Association, Alhaji Isyaku Sarkin Fawa; Hon. Muhammad Ado Bichi; Hon. Mukhtar Bagudu; and Prof. Arma Ya’u Hamisu Bichi, among other dignitaries.
The programme is aimed at supporting small-scale traders and skilled workers through training and financial assistance, with the broader objective of strengthening their businesses, improving their livelihoods and contributing to the socio-economic development of their communities.
