Suspected Boko Haram insurgents have detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a Juma’at Mosque in Gamboru Ward, near the Customs area in Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Independent Mirror reports that a resident, Sulaiman Ahmad, confirmed the incident, stating that it occurred at about 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday while Muslim worshippers were observing the Maghrib prayer.
According to him, several worshippers were either killed or injured as a result of the explosion.
“For now, we cannot ascertain the number of people who died or sustained injuries, but even the imam of the mosque is currently receiving treatment at a hospital,” Sulaiman added.

The blast has created fear and tension among residents of the area, especially as communities prepare for the 2025 Christmas celebration.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Borno State Government or the Nigeria Police regarding the incident.
