President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will address Nigerians on Thursday, October 1, 2026, as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
The Independent Mirror reports that the presidential broadcast is scheduled for 7 a.m., according to a statement issued on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Onanuga said television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media outlets, should link up with the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) for the broadcast.
The address is part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th year of independence from British colonial rule.
Nigeria gained independence on October 1, 1960, with Tafawa Balewa serving as the country’s first Prime Minister.
The anniversary comes amid ongoing discussions on the country’s economy, security, democratic governance and the welfare of citizens.
President Tinubu is expected to use the occasion to reflect on Nigeria’s progress since independence and outline his administration’s priorities as the country enters another year as a sovereign nation.
The presidential address will be broadcast at 7 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
