The windstorm has destroyed property worth millions of Naira at Abdullahi Umar Ganduje Stadium in Dawakin Kudu.
The Independent Mirror reports that It is well known that sports play a vital role in showcasing talent and curtailing the menace of drug abuse among the teeming populace, especially the youth.
Sports arenas serve as an avenue for exercising the body, aimed at improving physical fitness; they also help the government in generating income.
Besides that, they are also a sector of interaction, meaning they help in upholding friendliness, unity, and understanding between different sections of the community through engagement.
As a result of the hurricane that dismantled the sports arena, the remaining facilities at the venue are unsafe, hence there is a need for the Kano State Government, through the Ministry of Youths and Sports Development, to come to the aid of the stadium.
The windstorm, which happened on Saturday around 5:30 PM, led to the closing of the best stadium outside the metropolitan area.
It could be recalled that the Dawakin Kudu Stadium was established and commissioned by the then minister of sports, Solomon Dalung, during President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in the year 2018.
