The Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Information and National Orientation, Alhaji Muhammed Idris disclosed that the present administration, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is fully committed to adopting policies thoughtfully recommended by the Progressive Institute on skills acquisition.

The Independent Mirror reports that he made this disclosure during the 3-day National Conference on Skills Acquisition, held at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa in Abuja, organized and supported by Progressive Institute.

The Minister emphasized that the initiative acknowledges the crucial role young people play in shaping the future and demonstrates a genuine willingness to listen to their insights and perspectives offered during the conference.

Idris charged the Nigerian youth to rise to the challenges and responsibilities ahead with their unwavering passion.

He further reiterated Mr. President’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for youth to thrive and unleash their potentials.

Idris added that the established Progressive Institute by the ruling party is dedicated to expanding opportunities for youth empowerment, creating avenues for skill development, and supporting youth-led initiatives nationwide.

In his remarks, the Senate President Godswill Akpabio, represented by his Deputy, Barau Jibrin, highlighted the necessity of improving youth employability by advocating for skill development programs and job creation initiatives tailored to meet the demands of the modern workforce.

Jibrin promised to take the message of the conference to the Honourable House with a view to putting more effort into youth-driven policies.

In his address, the Director General of the Institute, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, reiterated their commitment to empowering Nigerian youth and creating a more inclusive society that recognizes and harnesses their full potential.

Adebayo said that youth employability is something that this administration gives top priority by introducing various programs and policies to address the challenges bedeviling the youth in that respect.

He urged the youth to reshape their thinking and accept the current reality of modernizing traditional skills, which will no doubt help the economy of the country.

“Producing products that will sell outside the country will count in boosting the economic standard and thereby giving you the strength to live peacefully without depending on anyone,” Lanre stated.

Different challenges faced by the youth and their solutions were discussed during the first day of the conference by invited guests from the academia and other heads of relevant organizations in Nigeria.
