President Tinubu Nominates Kabiru Lakwaya to SWDC Board, Seeks Senate Confirmation

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Hon. Kabiru Ado Lakwaya as a board member of the South West Development Commission (SWDC) and requested Senate confirmation for the appointment.

The Independent Mirror reports that President Tinubu on Thursday urged the Senate to consider and confirm his nominees for appointments as members of the boards of the development commissions for the South West, North Central, and South South regions.

The request was made after Senate President Godswill Akpabio read Tinubu’s letters of nomination during the plenary session on Thursday.

Tinubu’s nominees for the board of the South West Development Commission (SWDC) include former Senator Olubunmi Adetunmbi from Ekiti State as Chairman and Charles Akinola as Managing Director.

Other members nominees include: Bolaji Ariyo, Joseph Olugbenga, Scholastica Omoworare, Olumuyiwa Olabimtan, Adewinle Martins, Ibrahim Olaifa, Kabiru Ado Lakwaya, retired General Abdul Adamu, Arinola Fagbemi, Ukoha Onyekwere, Howell Ihenacho, Olugbenga Olufehinti, Tele Ogunjobi, Funmilayo Tejuosho, Fatai Ibikunle, and Lateef Ajijola.

Following the reading of Tinubu’s nomination letters, Senate President Akpabio referred the list to the relevant Senate committees on the development commissions, which will be constituted shortly.

The committees are expected to report back to the Senate within one week.

Hon. Kabiru Ado Lakwaya is a former Kano State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development under the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

He currently serves as the Special adviser to the Deputy Senate President, Barau Jibrin on youth and sports, and also a board member of Barau football club Kano.
