Former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has met with former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, ahead of his planned defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Monday.

The Independent Mirror reports that photos shared by Daily Nigerian indicate that the two northern politicians discussed key political issues in the lead-up to the 2027 general election.

Earlier on Saturday evening, a former Kano State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Yusuf Ibrahim Kofar-Mata, called on the general public to attend the upcoming registration event of the ADC, which will be led by Senator Kwankwaso.

In a statement made available to newsmen, Dr. Kofar-Mata, who serves as the ADC Caucus Secretary, said: “I am inviting the general public to the registration event of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which will be led by Sen. Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, on Monday, 30th March 2026, at about 12:00 noon at Kwankwasiyya House, Miller Road, Bompai, Kano.”

He also prayed for a successful event, adding, “May Allah grant us success, Amen.”

Senator Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), is expected to formally join the ADC during the event.

Sources indicate that the move follows weeks of consultations between Kwankwaso, his Kwankwasiyya movement, and leaders of the ADC.

The former presidential candidate has, in recent weeks, held a series of high-level meetings with ADC stakeholders and other opposition figures.

The development comes amid reports of a political rift between Kwankwaso and his protégé, Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
