NFPL: Umar Saikarege Shines, Clinches SWAN Player of the Match

Umar Sani Yakasai, popularly known as Saikarege, was awarded the SWAN Man of the Match after his outstanding performance on matchday 27 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. 

The Independent mirror reports that the match, played on Sunday between Kano Pillars and Enugu Rangers at the Sani Abacha Stadium, ended in a 2-1 in favour of the home side.

Umar Yakasai’s brilliant contribution was instrumental in Kano Pillars securing the win against Enugu Rangers in the crucial match attended by the Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle.

Kano Pillars legend Rabiu Ali equalized in the 42nd minute through a penalty, scoring his 11th goal of the season and his 133rd in NPFL history.

Forward Jerry Alex sealed the victory for Sai Masu Gida with a decisive header in the final minute, assisted by Abdullahi Ali, making it 2-1 in favor of Kano Pillars.

Umar Sani Yakasai’s exceptional performance on the pitch earned him the Man of the Match award, as voted by members of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kano State chapter, who were in attendance.

Kano Pillars will now moved up to 4th place on the NPFL table with 42 points from 27 matches.

Also, Kano Pillars will shift their focus to Matchday 28, where they will face Kwara United on Sunday, Match 9, 2025, at the Kwara State Stadium.
