Kano Seeks Strengthens Partnerships with AfDB, WFP on Poverty Alleviation

In a bid to drive impactful initiatives and enhance socio-economic development in Kano State, the Honourable Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Adamu Aliyu Kibiya led a high-level delegation to engage with key international development partners.

The Independent mirror reports that the delegation, which included the Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) and other senior officials, held crucial meetings with Dr. Abdul B. Kamara, Director General of the African Development Bank (AfDB), and David Stevenson, Country Director of the World Food Programme (WFP).

The discussions centered on forging robust partnerships to implement projects aimed at poverty alleviation, humanitarian response, and sustainable development in Kano State.

Speaking during the engagement, Commissioner Adamu Aliyu Kibiya underscored the state government’s commitment to leveraging international collaborations to improve the lives of Kano residents.

The AfDB and WFP reaffirmed their commitment to supporting Kano’s developmental goals, with particular focus on food security, economic empowerment, and social welfare. Dr. Kamara emphasized the AfDB’s readiness to contribute resources and expertise toward initiatives that drive lasting impact.

“We recognize Kano’s immense potential and are eager to support projects that will enhance livelihoods, strengthen economic resilience, and ensure sustainable development for communities,” Dr. Kamara noted.

On his part, WFP’s Country Director, David Stevenson, reiterated the organization’s support in addressing food security challenges and improving humanitarian responses in Kano.

These engagements mark a significant step toward mobilizing resources and expertise to drive impactful change for the people of Kano.

The Ministry remains committed to working with both local and international stakeholders to implement policies and programs that will uplift vulnerable communities and contribute to the overall development of the state.
