The Youth and Poor Association of Nigeria (YPAN) has condemned the deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibril, for his remarks comparing Nigeria with America and England in terms of hardship, inflation and economic crisis.
The Independent Mirror reported that in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja, the Chairman of YPAN Comrade Usman A. Mato said that Jibril’s comments were insensitive, irresponsible and ignorant of the realities of Nigerians who are suffering from poverty, unemployment, insecurity and poor governance.
“Senator Jibril has shown his utter disregard and disrespect for the millions of Nigerians who are struggling to survive in the face of the worst economic crisis in the history of our nation. He has also exposed his lack of knowledge and understanding of the socio-economic and political situations of the countries he is comparing us with. How can he compare Nigeria with America and England, where the governments provide subsidies and social welfare for their citizens, while our government has failed to deliver on its promises of improving the living standards of the people?” Mato said.
The association also accused Jibril of being out of touch with the masses and showing his loyalty to his colleagues, which majority of them has been accused of corruption, mismanagement and incompetence.
“Senator Jibril is living in a bubble of privilege and power, while the majority of Nigerians are living in misery and despair. He is a loyalist of the ruling party, which has plunged our country into a state of chaos and anarchy. He is trying to defend the indefensible and justify the unjustifiable. He is comparing apples and oranges, and insulting the intelligence and dignity of Nigerians,” Mato added.
The YPAN called for the immediate resignation of Jibril and apology to Nigerians for his offensive and misleading statements.
The association also warned other public officials to refrain from making such irresponsible and insensitive remarks in the future.
The YPAN also commended President Tinubu for his efforts to stabilise the economy and implement reforms that would benefit the people.
The association said that President Tinubu has shown leadership and vision in addressing the challenges facing the nation.
The YPAN urged Nigerians to support President Tinubu’s agenda and reject the propaganda and lies of the opposition, which has been trying to sabotage and undermine his administration.
The YPAN said that it would continue to advocate for the rights and interests of the youth and the poor in Nigeria, and hold the government accountable for its actions and policies.
